Gary Christmas is a dedicated community leader who has served in several positions for the County of Riverside from 1997 to 2010, including Chief Deputy County Executive Officer, Deputy County Executive Officer, and County Librarian. He has been the owner of Gary Christmas Consulting since 2010.
Originally, Gary was born in San Diego, California, and received his Master of Library Science degree from San Jose University. He served in numerous positions at the Riverside City and County Public Library system from 1983 to 1997, including Regional Zone Manager of the Western Riverside County, Library Branch Manager at Norco and Glen Avon regional libraries, and Reference librarian at the City of Riverside Main library. Additionally, Gary was a librarian at the Pomona Public Library from 1981 to 1983, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1973 to 1977.
In addition to his commitment to the library system, Gary focuses on the community as well. He is a member of the City of Riverside Board of Library Trustees and member of the Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce, in which he serves on the Government Affairs Council. He served as President of both the Unforgettables Foundation (2013-2014) and the Riverside East Rotary Club (2015-2016). Gary serves on the Board of Directors for the March Field Air Museum and the California Riverside Ballet, in addition to serving on the board of the California Library Services and the Mission Inn Foundation. His major interest in giving back to the community is supporting the arts and literacy.
