Wendel Tucker is currently the Vice President of the Riverside County Board of Education, a position he was elected to for a four-year term on the board in 2014. He has previously served as Superintendent of the Alford Unified School District, Vice President for Advancement and University Relations at La Sierra University, and as a Principal of several middle and high schools in both private and public education.
Wendell was born in Alvin, Texas, home of Nolan Ryan. He moved to California when he was three years old and worked in Napa Valley until age 32. Mr. Tucker is an Alum of Pacific Union College and holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. He teaches organizational behavior and leadership for La Sierra University in their schools of business and education.
In addition to his professional career, he has served the Riverside community in numerous leadership roles including: The Renaissance Network, the Riverside Public Library Trustees and Foundation Board, Chair of the Mayor’s Highest Education Business Council, the Community of Colleges and Universities Sub-Committee in Riverside, Riverside’s Mayor’s Strategic Plan Steering Taskforce, the Mayor’s Advisory, Seizing Our Destiny Champion Council member, and has served on the Riverside Charter Review Committee twice.
Mr. Tucker believes that the foundation of American culture and success is the volunteer spirit of the average citizen. We enjoy the benefits of freedom and quality of life because individuals give back time, energy, and expertise to their community without an expectation of monetary reimbursement. Wendel has been recognized throughout the community for participation in and leadership of various civic and professional task forces.
Furthermore, some of Mr. Tucker’s favorite community projects include being a Charter member and lead consultant for Completion Counts, being a Charter member of Seizing your Destiny, and serving as Chairman of the Board on the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce.
